Lightning struck my big camphor tree 2years ago. It was a gorgeous tree that I loved. It breaks my heart to remove it but hurricane season is here and if the dead part of it fell on my house it would be a mess. But this tree is another loss. It has been a friend for a long long time.
Nancy Hubbard normally hangs out with TV and music stars but she took a moment to send a care package to Good Fortune Farm Refuge. We are so grateful.
Today I spent the afternoon shaving Tundra (I so suck at this) and watching the first season of IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT. Carroll O’Connor took on two controversial roles (that I know of). Gillispe in Heat and Archie in The Bunkers. Sparta and my hometown of Lucedale share much in common. I believed America had turned a racial/misogynistic corner in the 1970s. I was wrong. There are many who want to go back to a society of total white male privilege. It won’t ever happen, I don’t think. But the fact so many want to return to those days makes me angry and sad.
Driving to my booksigning yesterday I saw this huge rainbow. Sorry it isn’t a better photo but I was driving and snapped it at a red light. I had a lovely signing. Jody did a great job hosting a trivia contest in the Doggone Pub she set up in the bookstore. We had a lot of fun and Priya Bhakta had created some great trivia prizes. Driving home the sky was clear and the traffic had cleared out.
In between Mother’s and Father’s Day I thought I’d post photos of both my parents. These photos were taken when I was in my early to mid-twenties. We were all working journalists. Man, I thought I knew everything worth knowing.
